Very competitive field for Barbados Guineas

The Barbados Advocate | April 16, 2011

Race seven is the feature race on the Barbados Turf Club’s 8th day of racing at the Garrison Savannah today. It is the 61st running of the Barbados Guineas, which is for West Indian bred 3-year-olds, going 1570 metres.

This year’s race is unique, as seven of the horses in the 12 horse field have been bred by Sir Charles Williams, of which Kendal Moon is owned by him, while Slip Stream is owned by him and his wife Lady Williams. Both are very exciting fillies that are expected to be in the mix up at the end.

Four of the others Istanbul, Reprise, Island Memories and Vitality were purchased by Lord Michael Taylor from Sir Charles Williams, and are in the capable hands of trainer Andy Ward. All four have been performing extremely well, and are already closing in on $300 000 in earnings.

Lord Michael Taylor and trainer Andy Ward also have Must Be In The Money in the race, and all five are capable of giving a good account of themselves. At the end it could be Instanbul, Reprise, Kendal Moon, Vitality and Island Memories fighting out the finish.

The supporting feature is race five, the Coo Bird Handicap for 3-year-olds and older rated 140 and below, going 1570 metres. The ones to follow could be Bouncebak, Charge It and Ring Time.
Post time for the first race is 1.30pm, and the ones to follow could be Atomic Bomb, Randy Andy and Midnight Express.

In race two, Who’s Staying, Tornade, Up The Ante and King Of The Jungle could be the ones to follow.
The filly Daga, is coming off of three straight wins, and should be the one to beat in race three, while good runs are expected from Byhookorbycreek, and Royal Spirit.

The ones to follow in race four could be, The Milk Maid, Whatadeal, and Victoria Belle.

In race six, Millennium Mile could be the one to beat. However, Why Not Dance, Storm Warning and Unreal are dangers.

The final event is very competitive, which means that there should be a good superfecta payout. The one to beat could be Nomoreginrog, while Fredrica, Zaltarr and Sweet Enough could make up the superfecta combination.
