Barbados Family Fun Day at Windsor Race Course 2nd May 2011

Barbados Family Fun Day at Windsor Race Course 2nd May 2011

Apparently Joe Cole was here on Monday, I say apparently as with 10,993 people enjoying a fantastic Family Fun Day that is difficult to prove!

The stars of the Barbados Family Fun Day were definitely Jalon Samuel and Sir Michael Stoute. Jalon travelled from Barbados for his ride on Sir Michael’s horse “Adone” in the 4.25 courtesy of the days partners “The Barbados Tourism Authority”; he arrived on Saturday and stayed in the Macdonald Hotel in Windsor. Jalon is the champion jockey in Barbados and it certainly showed as he steered “Adone” round the tight bend as if he had been riding here all his life, unfortunately there was no fairytale and his mount finished a very creditable 5th.

In the first race there was high drama when Tim Clark was injured as he left the stalls but he still managed to finish 6th aboard “Rich & Reckless”. The race was an apprentice race and Tim’s first ride under rules in the UK. On getting off he was rushed to the medical room and subsequently The Berkshire Air Ambulance landed in the centre of the course to rush him to The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Thankfully Tim is ok and looking forward to his next ride as he cannot remember his first! All I can say is “how tough are these jockeys!”

Peppa Pig and George delighted so many of the children and were mobbed wherever they went, it’s amazing just how popular these characters are and they really added to the family feel. One of the highlights for me was the Paddock Lawn. I have never seen it so busy and never seen so many people tucking into the wonderful foods provided by the Barbados Tourism Authority – a real treat for all.

All of the team at Royal Windsor Racecourse worked so very hard on Monday and our thanks go out to all those racegoers that attended. It was really a fantastic day and to see so many people enjoying the sun and racing was a wonderful sight.

We next race on Monday 9th May, Royal Windsor Racecourse Hospitality is still available and the first race is at 5.40pm – come racing!
