The Barbados Turf Club will be starting the first racing season of 2012, on Monday, January 2, with an eight race card that includes two feature races sponsored by Diamond International/ MontBlanc.

The first to be run is the Diamonds International/ MontBlanc Tribute (Condition Race) for West Indian bred 3-year-old Maidens (At time of entry), going 1570 metres.

This race has attracted 19 horses, of which three are scratched, leaving the race over subscribed at time of declaration by four.

What makes this race very interesting is the fact that most of the horses have not yet raced, and those that have showed little or no form, which means that the winner could come from one of those that have not yet raced, and punters could end up collecting some very good dividends.

Of those that have raced Finbar showed the most promise.

The second feature is the Diamonds International/ MontBlanc Meisterstuck (Handicap) for 3-year-olds & older rated 88-110 (At time of entry) (Also open to 3-year-old & older horses rated 87 and below) (At time of entry).

What a race this should be! Again this race is over subscribed, as 16 horse are declared to start, which means they are four reserves. The top weight of 130 pounds is allotted to Ring Time, while Purr Class takes 128, Charge It 125, and Kingdora 124 pounds. Also entered is the 2011 Derby winner Kendal Moon, who has the light weight of 109 pounds.

This is a superfecta betting race, and the lucky punters that can get the correct combination, could well find themselves collecting a very good dividend.  (CH)

Racing gets underway at 1.00 pm on the day.
